What is Cinemarket ?

Cinemarket is a secure Online Transaction Platform (OTP) using a blockchain solution where license owners can sell their film directly to distributors and exhibitors. The platform offers a full-service, end-to-end solution for distributors and producers to close legally-vetted, industry-leading license agreements, including payment and escrow services. Cinemarket stores film titles and licensing information resulting in a B2B distributed database with transparent transaction history.

Why is Cinemarket powered by blockchain technology ?

Blockchain technology is a means of achieving trust and security when making exchanges, without the need for oversight by a third party, and can be effective building blocks for other initiatives like anti-piracy and fraud prevention. The development of these technologies will provide internationally agreed ways of working, stimulating greater interoperability, speedier acceptance and enhanced innovation.

Why do I need to register my company info and fill out a profile ?

We are committed to generating value for our customers and want to ensure Cinemarket users can operate in a safe, quality managed system.

How does the registration process works ?

Once you have accepted the terms and conditions:

As a buyer you need to enter and save your personal and professional information. You will be directly able to navigate on the platform and get familiar with its functionality. Once your profile is validated you can start to do transactions.

As a seller you have to submit and upload the film first. Once your movie has been reviewed and validated by one of our curators you will receive an invitation. If your movie or documentary has been selected by one of our festival partners your movie will be automatically validated and available for transactions.

What is the cost to upload content ?

€35 a month. This includes the services Cinemarket provides below and one film title. After this title is uploaded, you will need to pay €10 for any additional film title. In case your content is not validated you will be reimbursed.

How does the transaction process works ?

When a buyer is interested in acquiring a license, the buyer sends a request to the license owner. Both parties can directly negotiate online the terms and conditions of the license with our legal tool. When both parties have agreed to the terms and conditions of the license, the licensee receives the material in exchange of funds through our escrow service.

What is the fee charged to License-Owners once a transaction is completed ?

The fee is variable 2% or 10% the amount of the transaction the first year.

Check the pricing guide.

How secure is the screening room ?

We use a Secure-Socket Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS), which is at the heart of Internet security, this security is serious.

Yes, you can directly invite them through our messaging system, but once they want to access the screening room, they will have to register their company for security reasons.

How do I ask the seller a question about a film ?

How do I remove a film ?

All you need to do is send us a request.

I represent buyers for several different companies and territories. Can I screen and manage transactions for all ?

Yes. However, each buyer profile needs to have a connected bank account.

What happens if more than one buyer is interested in the same title/territory ?

The license owner can organize an auction for a given time period.

Why do you need my phone number ?

Your phone number helps us increase your account security: a verification code is sent each time you finalize a transaction.

What is Ethereum and why do you use it on Cinemarket ?

According to the Ethereum website, “Ethereum is a decentralized platform that runs smart contracts.”

“Let us explain. When we use the term Smart Contract, we don’t mean a Standard Contract in the regular use of the word. It’s a term that we use here to mean digital or cryptocurrency that contains a legal agreement.”

What is a Smart contract ?

Smart contracts can be described as highly programmable digital money: it’s a code.

“Smart contract” is a term coined by Nick Szabo around 1993. It refers to computer programs or systems used to secure, execute and enforce interactions between parties. The idea behind this is to transfer trust-critical pieces of a contract to software, to formalize the relation in code. Thus, if one can trust the program executing the contract, one does not need to trust the other party in that they will fulfill the terms.

How do these smart contract function ?

Imagine automatically sending money from one person to another but only when a certain set of conditions are met.

For example, an individual wants to purchase a film license from another person. Traditionally there are multiple third parties involved in the exchange including lawyers and escrow agents, which makes the process unnecessarily slow and expensive. With Ethereum, a piece of code could automatically transfer the film ownership to the buyer and the funds to the seller after a deal is agreed upon without needing a third party to execute on their behalf.
